When test driving my '94 Tourist, at times I noticed a slight 'loose' feel in the drivetrain, more so when someone sat in the sidecar. I attributed this to the extra weight in the sidecar.

After delivery, I was testing the capacity of the reserve tank by draining the gas into a container and measuring it (2 liters), and I noticed an engine mount on the top of the engine in front of the alternator, and a corresponding bracket on the frame, with no bolt connecting them. A trip to the local dealer showed that when inspecting machines in the shop, half had the bolt, and half didn't. Whether they broke off, came unscrewed, or were just not installed is unknown. After discussion, I bought 3 large rubber washers, 2 large metal washers, and an 8mm x 30 bolt with nut and tightened it up. This eliminated the loose feeling in the drivetrain. I suspect that the engine was rocking somewhat on takeoff (I was too occupied steering to notice).

But I thought other Ural owners might want to check out this mounting. I like the open layout on this machine!

I had found when my Italia was delivered to the local dealer that there were a few nuts missing on very critical parts.Could have caused a very bad accident, but anyone who rides a bike knows that those visual inspections are important. Could save your life.

I agree about the inspection. When test driving at the dealers I assumed (apparently incorrectly!) that since it was a demonstrator that they would have tended to things like this.

But after delivery, I have been spending several days going over the whole bike. Most things are fine (and I already know better than to tighten the brakes to 'normal' levels) but a few things needed some small adjustment, such as the steering damper. But I also realize that sitting in the showroom there is plenty of opportunity for the public at large to 'twiddle' things when no one is looking... and I'm sure this may also happen when the vehicle is parked in a public place.

The reason I mentioned this bolt, though, it that it is not immediately obvious to casual inspection since it is on top under the gas tank.

I want to re-iterate that this machine is a lot of fun!
