Can you explain how the wires hook up on my new 35 amp alternator???
The Russian directions are hard to follow. The diagram on the back is useless.
Step 2 mentions a blue wire, I don't have any blue wires.
The old one had 2 yellow wires attached to it.
Do I have to get inside the headlight shell?
Do I remove the old regulator( by the right side of the battery?
Tom

I'll skip the existing wires and just tell you what the end result needs to be:
You need 1 wire running from the 10 mm nut terminal on the alternator to the + wire of the battery.
You need a spade lug plug (goes into a hole on the lower left side of the alternator) that goes to one side of the alternator light. You then connect the OTHER side of the alternator light to a terminal that is HOT ONLY when the ignition switch is on.
What this does: The indicator lamp, connected to the ign. switch, sends current to the alternator to 'turn it on'. (Technically, it excites it). Once the alternator is 'turned on' it turns off the lamp unless something goes wrong. The wire to the battery charges the battery.
How to get there from where you are:
I didn't use the old wires on the alternator - they were big enough for 14 amps, I was leery for 35 amps so I just ran a new wire to the battery and put terminal ends on it.
One of the wires on your old voltage regulator goes to the lamp. It's not the +. Remove one other wire, turn on the ign. If the light doesn't come on, you found it! Extend that wire to the alternator and put a spade connector on it.
Now, on the panel lamp - one of the connectors is to the wire you just moved. The other goes to ground. Unhook the ground wire. Run a NEW short wire with an INSULATED spade connector from the empty terminal to a wire that is hot ONLY when the key is on. If you don't want to cut a wire, you can get piggyback spade connectors and put one on the ignition switch. Make sure you wrap any piggyback connectors with tape or use shrinkwrap to prevent shorts.
If you can't find a hot wire, TEMPORARILY connect the alternator-end spade lug to ground. Touch the end of your new hot wire on the lamp other connections on the ignition switch until you find one that lights the lamp. Make sure it goes out when the key is off.
Hope this helps, I tried to split it into digestible chunks.

I've always wondered how I would adapt the high output alternator to my old Dnepr should the need arise. In two quick directions you let me picture the whole thing in my mind. Incredible! Making harnesses of appropriate materials and such is easy stuff. I'm a much better mechanic than I am a electrician. You've got a real gift for distilling something down to a simple and clear level. Thank you!
PS. With a gift like that, you'll never succeed in government! ;-)

Vance's description is accurate as are all his postings. I think that guy has done it all when it comes to Urals.. heh heh
Yes the old voltage regulator can be removed. The new unit has it built in.
I'm a believer that a picture is worth a thousand words, so here's two thousand worth. These are from the new collection of drawings. You saw them here first eh..
